    Transfer Students

    Acceptance

Students starting the athletic training education program after the beginning of their freshman year, whether transferring into the program from within the university or from outside the university, begin in the Fall semester ONLY and take KINE 1110, Introduction to Athletic Training. This course explains the UT academic program, the clinical education component, and exposes students to the profession of athletic training. Transfer students are considered preprofessional students for the entire first year. The BOC requires that we inform them when students are allowed to begin evaluating clinical proficiencies . We have told them that final classroom evaluation of some clinical proficiencies is at the beginning of a student's second year of involvement with the athletic training education program. These proficiencies are still evaluated throughout a student's clinical experience. The BOC requires an athletic training student to complete their clinical education over a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years. Transfer students may not complete the athletic training education program in less than four years from date of first contact with the program.

Students transferring into the athletic training education program must complete a six course sequence in clinical skill development, KINE 2710, 2720, 3710, 3720, 4710, 4720, AFTER they have been accepted into the professional program to graduate. Transfer students must be careful to not complete all university required course work before their clinical proficiency and competency requirements are completed.

Students transferring from outside the university must take the UT courses KINE 1110 (Intro to AT), and 4650 (Administration of Athletic Training Programs) in addition to KINE 2710-4720 (see above) at UT. Students may, on a case by case determination, transfer credit for KINE 1650 (Care and Prevention), KINE 1660 (Taping), KINE 2610 (Lower Extremity Evaluation), KINE 2620 (Upper Extremity Evaluation), KINE 3610 Medical Conditions, KINE 3630 (Therapeutic Modalities), and KINE 3660 (Rehabilitation of Athletic Injuries).

Students will not be allowed to attempt the BOC Certification Examination or the Ohio Licensure Examination until all competency and clinical proficiency requirements are completed.
