    Program Components

Through grant funding our program is able to provide its participants with a FREE summer program that includes a medical exam, transportation, daily sports instruction, a math and science component provided by local education professionals, alcohol and other drug awareness education, general education, t-shirts, and a daily USDA approved FREE lunch.

Math, Science and General Education Component
This component of the program is coordinated and facilitated by local education professionals. Our students learn math and science concepts through actively participating in hands-on activities, as well as encompassing topics such as personal hygiene, nutrition, career education, and the Princeton Review.

    Alcohol & Drug Awareness Education
This component tackles critical issues by exposing the participant to information through nontraditional methods such as art, drama, and role-playing. Group work is also used to encourage the students to participate and to interact with each other in a respectful and mature manner. Students will be introduced to UT's "Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs" program (HOFNOD).

    Sports
Instruction in the following is provided by professionals who are required to hold a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree:

  • Basketball
  • Dance/Aerobics
  • Football
  • Soccer
  • Swimming
  • Tennis
  • Track & Field
  • Volleyball
  • Softball
  •  In addition to these staples, each year the UT NYSP tries to add some additional events to the schedule for the enjoyment and growth of our participants.  This year will include:

    • Our annual Blue and Gold games
    • Walking trips to Wildwood Metropark along the University Parks Trail, led by naturalists from the Toledo Area Metroparks
