    Curriculum Vita

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Dr. Brian Pietrosimone is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and the Director of the Joint Injury and Muscle Activation Laboratory.  Dr. Pietrosimone received his B.S. degree in 2005 from Springfield College in Springfield Massachusetts (Athletic Training).  He then obtained his M.Ed in 2006 (Athletic Training) and his Ph.D in 2009 (Sports Medicine) from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.

Dr. Pietrosimone’s line of research is developed around understanding the neuromuscular consequences of lower extremity joint injury, and addressing the clinical impairment of muscle inhibition that occurs following joint trauma.  His previous and ongoing research is focused on: 1) interventions aimed at increasing muscle activation in inhibited muscles, 2) understanding the natural history of muscle inhibition and the neural pathways contributing to decreasing muscle activation, and 3) development of valid and reliable assessment techniques for measuring muscle activation through various neural pathways.  Dr. Pietrosimone’s goal is to answer both important disease oriented questions though basic and translational experiments, as well as develop clinical trials that will provide patient oriented outcomes in the area of joint injury management.
