Kinesiotherapy is one of the seven undergraduate concentrations offered
by the Department of Kinesiology. Students who pursue this
concentration earn the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science degree.
Students completing the concentration in Kinesiotherapy learn to apply
medically prescribed therapeutic exercises in the treatment of patients
with both physical and psychological illnesses. Kinesiotherapists use
many types of exercise to enhance the strength, flexibility, and
neuromuscular coordination of the patients that they treat. Psychiatric
patients are treated by resocialization activities and exercise which
are specifically oriented toward the accomplishment of psychiatric
objectives. The Department operates its own Kinesiotherapy Clinic,
where students have an opportunity to develop their clinical skills
with actual patients, while working under the supervision of Registered
Kinesiotherapists. The program is fully accredited by CAAHEP and the
American Kinesiotherapy Association, and graduates of the program are
eligible to sit for the national AKTA registration examination.
Graduates are employed in public and private hospitals and clinics,
rehabilitation centers, VA hospitals, public schools, colleges and
universities, and private industry.
