AN EXCITING CAREER IN LAW CAN BE YOURS!
Welcome to the Department of Undergraduate Legal Specialties at the University of Toledo's College of Health and Human Services!
UT's Paralegal Programs are recognized nationwide as one of America's leading Paralegal (also known as "Legal Assisting") programs. Our programs are the only Paralegal programs in Northwest Ohio approved by the American Bar Association, and have been designated as a "Program of Excellence" by the State of Ohio.
UT provides comprehensive education in the theories and skills needed to work in general and specialized law practices. All courses are taught by attorneys and judges in the new, state-of-the-art, McQuade Courtroom. (watch a 360 degree viewing of the McQuade Courtroom.) Click on Department News.
Bachelor degree students graduate with a four-year (124 semester hours) diploma. Associate degree students graduate with a two-year (60 semester hours) diploma. The Program also offers a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (30 semester hours) for those students already holding a baccalaureate or masters degree. For registered nurses with an associate degree in nursing, our Nurse Paralegal Certificate (21 semester hours) provides exciting opportunities.
Although paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public (except as permitted by law) they do help attorneys conduct interviews and investigations, research cases, draft legal documents, assist at real estate closings, depositions, trials and much more!
While in the Paralegal Program, students can become a member of the Mock Trial team. The Mock Trial team competes regionally and nationally each year. In 2001, the UT team placed first in the two-year college division at the national tournament. This makes the 12th consecutive year a UT team has placed in the national competition.
In addition to quality classes in a courtroom setting, beginning with Spring semester 1998, the Program began offering selected courses over the Internet. Now students can take advantage of the highest quality education "on-line"!
