What are the key features of UT Physical Therapy?
- DPT with DPT/PhD option
- 92 credit hours (32 month duration, full-time) = cost effective
- The University of Toledo has an academic Health Center, which gives students access to the physical and intellectual resources of a full-service medical institution
- Diverse group of devoted faculty with clinical, educational, and scholarly expertise
- Extensive and well-established clinical affiliation opportunities for students
- 2007 licensure pass rate = 100% (Note: We did not have a graduating class of 2008 as this was the year we fully transitioned to the DPT curriculum)
Who can apply to the UT DPT program?
- Anyone who meets the minimum entrance requirements can apply (see Selection Requirements below)
- Admission is competitive
- Enrollment Agreement: The UT Department of Physical Therapy has an enrollment agreement with Bowling Green State University (BGSU) and The University of Toledo. Ten eligible students from each of these two institutions are offered a seat in the DPT program each year. Eligible applicants from institutions other than BGSU and UT will be considered for the remaining seats.
What are the Selection Requirements for the UT DPT program?
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
- Completion of all prerequisite coursework (see below)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0
- Statement of Purpose
- Three (3) letters of recommendation; one must be from a physical therapist and two (2) others from non-relatives
- Interview
- The GRE is NOT required for the UT DPT Program
What are the prerequisite courses?*
- Biology (for science majors): 8-10 semester hours with a lab or equivalent
- Chemistry (for science majors): 8-10 semester hours with a lab or equivalent
- Physics (algebra based): 8-10 semester hours with a lab or equivalent
- Psychology: 6 semester hours or equivalent
*Please keep in mind that some institutions are on the quarter hour system. A quarter hour is a smaller unit when compared to the semester hour, so it is important, if you attend such an institution, that you meet with your undergraduate advisor to make sure your prerequisite courses are meeting the required amount of semester hours.
Are any courses highly-recommended?**
- Anatomy and Physiology: 3-6 semester hours or equivalent
- Biomechanics: 3 semester hours or equivalent
- Exercise Physiology: 3 semester hours or equivalent
- Statistics: 3 semester hours or equivalent
**Please note that these courses are highly recommended, but are not required for admission into the DPT program.

- Strong GPA in core science coursework
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Sound knowledge of the discipline of physical therapy and the issues facing the PT profession
What is the deadline for application?
- Applications for the UT DPT Program are due by November 1 prior to the year of anticipated matriculation (entrance) into the program (fall matriculation only)
What is required at the time of application?
- Completion of the College of Graduate Studies online application
- Completion of two (2) courses in biology, two (2) courses in either chemistry or physics, and one (1) course in psychology
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0
- Statement of Purpose

What is the tuition for the UT DPT Program?
- Estimated cost for College of Graduate Studies, Health Science Campus: Fall & Spring approximately $6075/semester (Ohio resident) and $11019/semester (non-resident); Summer semester approximately $4390 (Ohio resident) and $8098 (non-resident). Some courses in the DPT curriculum require an additional student fee.
