      ADMISSIONS - Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

      Selection Requirements for the UT DPT Program:

      • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
      • Completion of all prerequisite coursework (click here for the list of UT prerequisites and course equivalency information)
      • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
      • Minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0
      • Statement of Purpose
      • Three (3) letters of recommendation; one must be from a physical therapist and two (2) others from non-relatives
      • Interview
      • The GRE is NOT required for the UT DPT Program
      • Enrollment Agreement: The UT Department of Physical Therapy has an enrollment agreement with Bowling Green State University (BGSU) and The University of Toledo. Ten eligible students from each of these two institutions are offered a seat in the DPT program each year. Eligible applicants from institutions other than BGSU and UT will be considered for the remaining seats.

          Minimum requirements at the time of application:

          • Completion of the two (2) prerequisites in biology, two (2) of the prerequisites in either chemistry or physics, and one (1) prerequisite in psychology (click here for the list of UT prerequisites and course equivalency information) 
          • NOTE: this requirement has been recently modified. Candidates applying in 2009 will be considered with the previous requirement of one (1) biology and one (1) of either chemistry or physics courses to be completed at the time of application.
          • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
          • Minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0
          • Note it is not required that the applicant has earned a bachelors degree at the time of application

          Characteristics of a successful applicant:

          • Strong GPA in core science coursework
          • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
          • Sound knowledge of the discipline of physical therapy and the issues facing the PT profession

          Admissions Process

          The following must be received by 5:00 p.m. November 1, 2009:

          • College of Graduate Studies application (completed online, click here)
          • $45 application fee paid through the application system online (requires credit card)
          • Statement of Purpose (click here for details) 
          • Three (3) letters of Recommendation; one must be from a physical therapist and two (2) others from non-relatives (click here for recommendation form)
          • Official transcripts from ALL institutions of higher education , including community colleges*

          *NOTE:  If you are retaking a prerequisite course in the fall semester you apply to improve a grade, another set of transcripts from that institution is required by January 8, 2010 reflecting the new grade earned in the repeated course.  If your institution offers "grade deletion" it is your responsibility to be sure your updated transcripts reflect this.
