March 18, 2014 – Raymond Schultz ’91 was recently re-elected as the managing partner of the Grand Rapids office of Kreis Enderle, P.C. and also re-elected to the firm’s executive committee for 2014. Kreis Enderle, P.C. has offices in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, and St. Joseph, Michigan. Schultz has been with the firm for 23 years.
March 18, 2014 – Scott Knowles ’02 has been promoted to chief executive officer of Sims Brothers Recycling located in Central Ohio.
February 18, 2014 – Timothy F. Sheridan ’93 was named the managing partner of Plunkett Cooney's Grand Rapids office. With nearly 20 years of experience, Sheridan’s areas of practice include construction litigation; professional liability, including legal and accounting malpractice matters; trucking and transportation litigation; premises liability; and product liability.
February 1, 2014 – Sharon Speyer ’85, president of Huntington Bank’s Northwest Ohio region, has been named recipient of the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Athena Award. The award is given each year to an area woman who shows excellence, creativity, and initiative in her business or profession, provides service to improve the quality of life for others in her community, and assists women in reaching their full leadership potential.
January 31, 2014 – Matthew Mitten ’84, professor of law and director of the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette University Law School, was in Sochi, Russia to serve as an arbitrator for the Winter Olympic Games.
January 8, 2014 – Tyler Pensyl ’06, an associate in the Columbus office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, has been included on the 2014 Ohio Rising Stars List. Rising Stars are chosen by their peers as being among the most recognizable up-and-coming lawyers in Ohio.

Hoffman ’92, a former in-house attorney for some of Michigan and Ohio’s largest multi-state hospital systems, recently joined the Healthcare Industry Group of Plunkett Cooney in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, as a senior attorney. Hoffman practices in the areas of healthcare, corporate, and employment law.
January 2, 2014 – Rorey Smith '99 was named the General Counsel for the United States Commission on Civil Rights. He was previously the Deputy General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer for the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency in Washington, D.C.
January 1, 2014 – Ronald C. Brown ’68, professor of law at the University of Hawaii, was appointed a Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne and will teach an intensive course on Asian Employment Law at the University of Melbourne Law School in May 2014.
December 30, 2013 – Stephanie Hanna ’08 joined the litigation practice group at Carlile Patchen & Murphy in October 2013. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation, business conflict mediation, and administrative proceedings.
December 27, 2013 - Rachel M. Reight '04 became a partner with Baasten, McKinley and Co., L.P.A. in Canton, Ohio. She focuses her practice on labor and employment law, with an emphasis on education law and workers' compensation law. Reight served on the labor law and disputed fee committees at the Stark County Bar Association for the 2013-2014 term. She also served as a judicial panelist for the 2014 31st Annual Ohio High School Mock Trial Competition in both the District and Regional Competitions.

November 27, 2013 – Brian N. Ramm ’87 has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Federal Bar Association, Northern District of Ohio Chapter. Ramm is a partner at Ulmer & Berne LLP, where his practice is focused on the national defense of pharmaceutical companies in federal and state courts.
November 18, 2013 – Fraser McAlpine ’78 has joined Jackson Lewis as partner in their San Francisco office and, effective January 1, 2014, he will become Managing Partner of their San Francisco office as well. McAlpine was formerly at Hunton & Williams where he was the Managing Partner of their San Francisco office and head of their California Labor and Employment practice.

September 27, 2013 – Judge Jeffrey Schmehl '80 was formally sworn in on September 27, 2013, as the newest federal judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Nominated by President Obama in November 2012 and confirmed by the Senate in June 2013, Schmehl had served as a judge for the Berks County, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas since 1998.
September 24, 2013 – Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio has named Dr. Karen Miner-Romanoff ’88 dean of its College of Health and Public Administration.

August 27, 2013 – Murray K. Lenson ’68, of the Cleveland office of Ulmer & Berne LLP, has received “Best Lawyer” honors. Murray has more than 44 years of expertise in defending casualty and liability lawsuits primarily for medical, legal, and accounting malpractice claims.
August 27, 2013 – John L. Straub ’69, of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, received “Best Lawyer” honors and was named Toledo Family Law "Lawyer of the Year." Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year,” making this accolade particularly significant.
August 21, 2013 – Joshua A. Boggioni ’09 has joined the Chicago-based firm of Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP as an associate in its Real Estate Tax Practice Group.
August 19, 2013 – Michael Goulding ’95 has been appointed by Governor Kasich to fill a vacancy on the Lucas County, Ohio Common Pleas Court. In 2007, Goulding was appointed to serve as judge on the Toledo Municipal Court and was elected to a six-year term later that year.
August 19, 2013 – Joseph E. Herbert ’92, of the Cleveland office of Roetzel & Andress, received “Best Lawyer” honors for his work in the area of Medical Malpractice Law Defense. Herbert represents physicians and hospitals in medical defense and hospital and health care law matters.
August 18, 2013 – Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert appointed Ryan B. Evershed ’05 to the Juvenile Court in Utah’s Eighth Judicial District. Evershed gained valuable experience in Juvenile Court when he represented the Child Protection Division of the Utah Attorney General's Office in court cases involving child abuse, neglect, and dependency.

August 6, 2013 – Nicholas D. Seger ’11 joined the Dayton office of Faruki Ireland & Cox P.L.L. Before joining his new firm, Seger served as law clerk to the Honorable James G. Carr of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
August 6, 2013 – Michael Aaron Wehrkamp ’09 is engaged to marry Laura Ashley Arend. Wehrkamp is a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Vernon L. Preston of the Ohio Third District Court of Appeals in Lima. The couple will exchange wedding vows on September 6, 2013.
August 5, 2013 – Charles Anderson ’77 has been named the Ohio Industrial Commission Employee of the Month for August 2013. Anderson, who was nominated and selected for the award by his coworkers, is a staff hearing officer in the Toledo Regional Office. He has been employed with the Industrial Commission since 1982.
July 1, 2013 – Alan J. Lehenbauer ’84 of Swanton, Ohio, has been elected to serve a three-year term as District 3 representative on the Board of Governors of the Ohio State Bar Association. As a member of the The McQuades Co., LPA, his general practice includes matters involving personal injury, estate planning, and criminal law.
June 25, 2013 – The Toledo Blade profiled Steve Persia ’04 in a story titled “UT grad Persia tries hand as NFL agent.”
June 12, 2013 – Lucas County Juvenile Court Judge Connie Zemmelman ’81 was sworn in as president of the Toledo Bar Association. Her term begins on July 1. Zemmelman became a juvenile court judge in 2007.

Chambers USA conducts in-depth research and ranks the leading firms and attorneys in an extensive range of practice areas throughout America. Smith was selected as a leading corporate/M&A lawyer in Ohio.
June 2, 2013 – Thomas Shawn Hervey ’97 was appointed to serve as a Harrison County Common Pleas Court judge by Gov. John Kasich. Hervey started his career with the county in 1997 as an assistant county prosecutor, and became the county prosecutor in February 2003.
May 24, 2013 – Jenifer A. Belt ’95, a partner in the Toledo office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, was awarded the “Order of the Heel” presented by the Toledo Junior Bar Association. The award is presented to a member of the bar who has given most unselfishly of his or her time, talents, and energies to assist young lawyers.
May 15, 2013 – Arturo Polizzi ’97 was appointed the chief operating officer of ProMedica Toledo Hospital and ProMedica Children's Hospital, effective June 17. In his new position, Polizzi will oversee surgical services, patient care services, the ProMedica Wildwood Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital, the Center for Health Services, and other support services.
May 14, 2013 – Sarah K. Skow ’06 received the Crosby Award presented by the Toledo Botanical Garden. The award recognizes women who make a significant difference in the quality of life in the Toledo community through support and advocacy of gardens, the arts, nature, or education. Skow practices with Cooper & Kowalski, LPA, in the areas of tort litigation, civil rights, criminal defense, and business litigation.
May 10, 2013 – Martin E. Mohler ’73 was elected to become the Ohio State Bar Association’s president-elect at the OSBA’s annual convention in Cleveland. Mohler is a partner in the Toledo firm of Shindler, Neff, Holmes, Worline and Mohler, LLP. He will take office as OSBA president on July 1, 2014.
April 30, 2013 – Gov. John Kasich appointed Gary Rodman Cooper ’69 to the Ohio University Board of Trustees. Cooper, of Cooper & Kowalski, LPA, has a diverse civil trial and arbitration practice covering a variety of commercial disputes, business-related torts, healthcare, construction, automotive supply-chain, and civil rights.

April 12, 2013 – W. Alex Smith ’10 joined the Office of the Hancock County, Ohio Public Defender as an assistant public defender.
April 9, 2013 – James W. “Trey” Pauley III ’08 was honored as a recipient of the Dayton Business Journal’s 2013 Forty under 40 award. Pauley is an associate in the Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP Columbus office and a member of the labor and employment group.
April 1, 2013 – Scott Pierangeli ’97 a former assistant in the Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, was appointed as Kalamazoo County, Michigan, public administrator by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette. As public administrator, Pierangeli will oversee the remaining assets of deceased persons who leave behind no will or heirs to their estate

March 7, 2013 – William Chris ’84, a partner at Roderick Linton Belfance in Akron, Ohio, was included in the 2013 edition of Super Lawyers Magazine and featured in the Akron Legal News story “Longtime Akron law firm continues to gain recognition.”
February 28, 2013 – Taylor Knight ’12 joined Reminger Co., LPA in the Sandusky office. Knight focuses her practice in various areas, including medical malpractice, professional liability, oil, natural gas and utilities, and D&O and employment practices.
February 18, 2013 – Two books by Patricia Wise ’85 were published by the Thompson Publishing Group. The 3rd edition of “Understanding and Preventing Workplace Retaliation” and “Harassment in the Workplace: Sexual, Racial, and Religious Complaints” are both available in print and online. Wise, a labor and employment lawyer at Niehaus & Associates, Ltd., was also recently appointed to SHRM's 2013 Labor Relations Special Expertise Panel and named a 2013 Top Rated Lawyer in Labor and Employment by American Lawyer Media.

February 26, 2013 – Chief Judge Roderick Kennedy ’80 of the New Mexico Court of Appeals was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C. to represent its jurisprudence section. Chief Judge Kennedy co-authored a chapter concerning jurisprudence for the book Forensic Science: Current Issues, Future Directions published by Wiley-Blackwell earlier this year for the AAFS.
January 10, 2013 – The governors of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers elected Chuck Poplstein ’80 a college fellow. Poplstein is a partner at Thompson Coburn LLP in St. Louis, Missouri and the co-chair of the firm’s labor and employment practice. He has more than 30 years of experience in a broad range of labor and employment issues.
January 8, 2013 – Kent M. Shimeall ’81 was named the director of the Ohio Supreme Court’s legal resources division. Previously, Shimeall served as section chief of the Ohio Attorney General’s constitutional office section, which provides legal counsel to all statewide elected officeholders.
January 7, 2013 – Gerald D. Greiner ’81 has been appointed as Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited’s head of global clearing.
January 4, 2013 – Marie-Joelle Khouzam ’91, a managing partner at Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP in Columbus, Ohio, was named an Ohio Super Lawyer in her field for 2013. Khouzam concentrates on representing employers and management in labor and employment law matters, workers’ compensation, and municipal law. She has been previously listed in Ohio Super Lawyers (Corporate Counsel list, Employment Law list, Top 25 Women in Columbus list); listed in Best Lawyers in America; and listed in Super Lawyers Business Edition2011 (Employment & Labor).
January 3, 2013 – Judge Roderick Kennedy ’80 was sworn in as the chief judge of the New Mexico Court of Appeals on New Year's Day.
December 23, 2012 – Scott Ciolek ’07 was interviewed for NPR’s program ‘All Things Considered’ about a lawsuit he has filed in Ohio against websites that publish mug shots and charge people to have pictures removed.

December 20, 2012 – Courtney J. Trimacco ’07 was elected a shareholder at Reminger Co., LPA. Trimacco is an attorney in the firm’s Cleveland office. December 20, 2012 – Corey Minor Smith ’01, legal director for the Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority, was interviewed on Tough Talk Radio’s ‘Leadership Talk’ with Elaine Greaves.
December 17, 2012 – Laura M. Walker ’77 received a PhD from George Mason University’s School of Public Policy after completing her dissertation, "Religious-Related Decisions in Federal Appellate Courts: The Influence of Jurisdictional Characteristics and Judicial Attributes on Voting." She is an assistant professor, the head of the pre-law advising program, and the director of the legal studies minor in the Department of Public and International Affairs at George Mason University.
December 13, 2012 – Geoffrey L. Squitiero ’85 joined Halloran & Sage LLP in its New Haven, Connecticut office as a partner. Squitiero practices in the area of civil litigation and real estate law. His practice focuses on the defense of clients in diverse cases, including claims of product liability and toxic torts. He also defends manufacturers against claims of asbestos exposure in both state and federal court.
December 11, 2012 – Ernest W. Auciello ’85 was inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA) at the LCA’s 2012 Fall Conference & Induction of Fellows in Palm Beach, Florida. Auciello is a partner in the Cleveland office of Tucker Ellis LLP. He is a trial lawyer who focuses on pharmaceutical litigation, medical malpractice, and long-term care litigation with an emphasis on the defense of medical professionals, hospitals, and other medical institutions and product manufacturers.
December 11, 2012 – John F. McDonough ’82 joined Olinsky Law Group in Syracuse, New York. McDonough practices workers’ compensation and Social Security disability law.

October 23, 2012 – Paul H. Mitrovich ’65, a retired judge with 30 years on the bench of the Lake County, Ohio Court of Common Pleas, published the book Justice Delayed: The Road to Brown v. Brd. of Ed. of Topeka and the Civil Rights Movement with Halo Publishing International.
October 18, 2012 – John R. Condren ’92, a partner with the Buffalo, New York firm of Rupp, Baase Pfalzgraf, Cunningham & Coppola, LLC, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Western New York Defense Trial Lawyers Association. Condren practices in the areas of insurance defense litigation and insurance coverage.
October 8, 2012 – David R. Hudson ’09 was appointed assistant law director for the City of Maumee. September 21, 2012 – Richard Walinski ’69, an attorney with Thacker Martinsek LPA, has been appointed to serve on the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission. Members of the commission are charged with the task of recommending changes to the Ohio constitution to the general assembly.
