Regalia Orders

J.D. graduates rent essential regalia from The University of Toledo Official Bookstore (1430 Secor Rd) in the Gateway complex. Rented regalia must be returned after the ceremony.

Due to scheduled inventory at the University of Toledo Bookstore, the deadline to order regalia has been extended. Please order regalia by Monday, April 1. Orders received after this date may be accommodated, but will incur a late fee and the correct hood color (purple) cannot be guaranteed. All law regalia orders will include the mortarboard cap, gown, hood (purple), and tassel. J.D. students may also purchase a tam (optional).

To place your regalia order, go to The University of Toledo Official Bookstore and provide them with the rental order form filled out.

Student Pricing (before tax):

  • Juris doctor (J.D.) rented regalia = $122
  • J.D. tam (optional) purchased regalia = $79

Order Pickup: Orders placed by the March 29 deadline can be picked up at the Main Campus Bookstore during regular store hours approximately one week before graduation. Please call the Bookstore at 419.530.2516 before picking up your items to confirm they have arrived. The college will not be responsible for unclaimed regalia orders.

Size & Fit: Try on your regalia as soon as you receive it to verify sizing and hood color. All law hood colors will be PURPLE. If the hood color is incorrect or if any element does not fit properly, please return the items to the Bookstore ASAP to make necessary corrections before the ceremony.

J.D. Rental Returns: J.D. graduates may return their rented regalia (mortarboard cap, gown, and hood) in Room 1002 at the Law Center immediately following the ceremony until 4 p.m. on May 5. After that time, J.D. graduates will be responsible for returning their rented regalia to the bookstore at 1430 Secor Rd. on Monday, May 6 as the bookstore is not open during the weekend. Rented tassels do not need to be returned, so you may want to hold onto your tassel as a memento. Purchased tams also do not need to be returned.

Academic Distinction

Students may graduate with academic distinction if the higher of their UToledo or overall grade point average is at least 3.3. The overall grade point average includes ALL coursework taken at all law institutions. These averages and the citation they merit are as follows:

3.3 - cum laude
3.6 - magna cum laude
3.9 - summa cum laude

Eligible candidates will be recognized at commencement based on all academic work completed at the end of the term preceding commencement. The actual honors awarded at the time a degree is posted will be based on the higher value of the student's final UToledo or overall cumulative GPA.

Honor Cords

Law students graduating with academic distinction or those who currently served or have served in the military will receive honor cords to wear with their regalia. Academic honor cords will be available for pick up the week before commencement at the Law Registrar's Office on the second floor of the Law Center and any cords not picked up in advance will be available when you line up for the ceremony at the Student Union.

NOTICE TO GRADUATING VETERANS AND ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES: You are eligible to receive a special honor cord recognizing your military service. To receive this cord, eligible students should contact UToledo's Military Service Center at 419.530.1392 or by email at msc@utoledo.edu. Verification of military service is required.

Bar exam & honors recognition information

Class of 2024 graduates should remember to submit the Bar Exam & Honors Recognition form to the Law Registrar's Office by March 15. Your successes in law school are recognized in an honors booklet at graduation upon your permission.

Diplomas

A diploma case will be issued only to those candidates present at the commencement ceremony. Your official diploma will be mailed to the mailing address you listed on your myUT graduation application after you have been cleared for graduation by the Law Registrar's Office. You will receive an email at your UToledo student email address once the diploma has been mailed. This clearing, posting, and ordering of diplomas is ongoing for about 45 days past commencement. To verify that your degree has been awarded, graduates should view their unofficial transcript through the myUT Portal. Follow instructions for viewing unofficial transcripts online. If you want your diploma sent to another address or have it held for an in-person pickup, please email the University Registrar's Office at graduation@utoledo.edu.

Photography

The University photographer will take individual photos of each candidate as they cross the stage, and a professional photographer will take a photo of each graduate with their diploma cover after the graduate leaves the stage. Family and guests are welcome to take pictures from the audience, but may not go on to the stage. Photos from the ceremony will be available to download on our Flickr album.

Directory Release of Information

If your student records have been coded "Do Not Release" for directory information, your name WILL NOT be provided to local newspapers for publication if it is requested. If you wish to verify or change your directory release information, you can do so by logging in to the myUT Portal.

Academic & Financial Deficiencies

Clear outstanding student account balances (including library, traffic, and parking fines) before commencement. Questions regarding in-progress grades must also be addressed prior to graduation.

Computer Accounts

All students have a OneDrive account through Information Technology. Any files stored on OneDrive will be deleted when you graduate and/or leave the University. If you have information stored on OneDrive and need to retain it for future use, it is your responsibility to contact UToledo's IT Help Desk at ITHelpDesk@utoledo.edu or 419.530.2400 if you have questions about how to retain the information or copy the files. If you have installed any Microsoft Office programs through UToledo’s student license, it will become inactive upon graduation from the university. Graduates are able to continue to use their Rockets email after graduation. You will be responsible for continuing to change your password every six months to keep an active account. If the account becomes inactive, the mailbox will be removed.

Degree Audits & Certificates of Concentration

If you want to apply for a certificate of concentration, application forms for the certificates are available on the College of Law website. Applicants can run degree audits through the myUT Portal at any time prior to graduation to determine which requirements have been completed and are unfulfilled. If you cannot run your audit through the portal or have any questions about the information on the audit, contact the Law Registrar's Office at 419.530.5098.
