Toledo Law rises to second among Ohio public law schools in influential SSRN law school rankings

In new rankings of U.S. law schools released by the Social Science Research Network on September 1, 2013, The University of Toledo College of Law has risen several spots and is now second among Ohio’s five public law schools as measured by downloads in the last 12 months.  Overall, Toledo Law is third among Ohio’s nine law schools. SSRN ranks law schools based on the number of downloads of papers written by authors from that school.
           
Papers by Toledo Law authors have been downloaded 4,318 times in the past 12 months. Among Ohio schools, Toledo Law beats out the University of Cincinnati College of Law (4,186), University of Akron School of Law (3,901), Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (3,428), Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law (2,925), University of Dayton School of Law (1,930), and Capital University Law School (1,003). 

Toledo Law also beats out a number of “flagship” state law schools – including the University of Kentucky College of Law, University of Mississippi School of Law, University of Nebraska College of Law, Louisiana State University Law Center, West Virginia University College of Law, University of Oregon School of Law, and University of Arkansas School of Law – and many private schools, including Tulane University Law School and the University of Richmond School of Law.

Toledo Law’s faculty is the second smallest among Ohio’s law schools, which makes this achievement even more impressive. 

“This is another demonstration of the impact our faculty is making in the world of legal scholarship. Downloads are a measure not just of productivity but of the importance and relevance of their work. This is a significant milestone and a point of pride for the College of Law and the whole University,” said Daniel J. Steinbock, dean of the College of Law. 
           
This rise in SSRN rankings follows on Toledo Law’s #90 ranking in the spring 2013 Roger Williams University School of Law study on faculty productivity. In that ranking, Toledo Law was fourth among Ohio’s nine law schools.
