Social media law scholar joins College of Law faculty

June 19, 2014

Agnieszka McPeak will join The University of Toledo College of Law faculty in fall 2014, where she will teach Torts, Legal Ethics, and Social Media Discovery. For the past two years, McPeak has taught at the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.

McPeak is a leading emerging scholar of the intersection of law and social media. Among the courses she taught at Loyola were Social Media Evidence and Social Media Bootcamp: How to Effectively Use Social Media in Litigation. She has written several articles in the area, including “The Facebook Digital Footprint: Paving Fair and Consistent Pathways to Civil Discovery of Social Media Data,” published by the Wake Forest Law Review, and “Social Media Snooping and Its Ethical Bounds,” to appear in a forthcoming issue of the Arizona State Law Journal. She also tweets on social media and the law under the handle @socialmediaJD.

Prior to entering teaching, McPeak worked for five years as a litigation attorney at the New Orleans law firm of Stone Pigman Walther Wittmann LLC. She was named a “Rising Star” by the Louisiana Super Lawyers magazine in 2012.

“Professor McPeak will join Toledo’s exceptional group of junior faculty members,” says Geoffrey Rapp, Harold A. Anderson Professor of Law and Values and chair of the College’s Faculty Appointments Committee. “She combines a wealth of real-world knowledge acquired in the trenches of law practice with an exciting and timely scholarly agenda.”
