Michael Winger ‘05 has joined the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers as General Manager.  The Los Angeles Times  reported on August 23 that Winger was set to join the LA Clippers as the team’s next General Manager. On August 24, ESPN reported that Winger will report to Lawrence Frank, the Clippers’ new president of basketball operations.

Winger, who graduated from Miami University before coming to the College of Law, got his start in the sports industry through a relationship with Baltimore attorney Ronald Shapiro, who USA Today called “one of baseball’s most respected agent-attorneys.”  Winger worked for Mr. Shapiro while in law school, spending his third year as a visiting student at the University of Maryland.  He joined the front office of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2005 and subsequently the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2010.

ESPN describes Winger as having “developed a reputation as one of the league’s most respected young executives.”
