Toledo Law Rises in SSRN Law School Rankings; Ranks Third Among All Nine Ohio Law Schools

July 17, 2017

In a recent ranking of U.S. law schools released by SSRN on June 25, 2017, Toledo Law ranked second out of Ohio’s five public law schools and third out of Ohio’s nine total law schools.  SSRN ranks law schools based on the number of papers written by each law school’s faculty downloaded from SSRN’s website in the last 12 months.

Papers by Toledo Law faculty members have been downloaded 6,457 times in the last 12 months, placing Toledo Law at its highest point ever in these rankings.  Toledo Law bested several “flagship” state law schools, including the University of Nebraska College of Law, Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, University of Oregon School of Law, and University of Arkansas School of Law, in its number of downloads.

Toledo Law also had more downloads than many private law schools, including Tulane University Law School, University of Richmond School of Law, and Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law.

“This ranking is a testament to the high quality work our faculty members are producing,” said Kara Bruce, associate dean for faculty research and development.   “It speaks not only to the quantity of scholarly work produced by Toledo Law faculty, but also to its quality and relevance.”

Faculty from Toledo Law have also been nationally ranked in terms of their scholarly impact.  In 2015, a study completed by Gregory Sisk of the University of St. Thomas Law School ranked Toledo Law #62 in terms of scholarly impact – tying with the University of Missouri School of Law and coming in just ahead of DePaul University College of Law.
