Historical/Biographical Sketch

Mark J. Camp was born on December 19, 1947. He was a graduate of Waite High School, attended UT and attained his Bachelor’s Degree in 1970 and Master of Science degrees in 1972. He continued his education at The Ohio State University, where he received his doctor of philosophy degree in geology in 1974. He returned to the University of Toledo in 1976 as a professor of Geology, teaching eleven different courses. In 1982, he gained the rank of Associate Professor. He is currently the director of the UT Subsurface Data Center, a repository for rock and soil samples collected in cooperation with the Ohio Division of the Geologic Survey. Dr. Camp’s hobbies include researching history, and he is affiliated with many historical interests groups including the National Railway Historical Society and the Western Lake Erie Anthropological Program.


Dr. Camp has been published numerous times in a variety of sources, and is among eight Ohioans who have been named Fellows of the Ohio Academy of Science. He is currently conducting research on the roadside geology of Indiana (in press at Mountain Press), collecting information for a biography of Aurele LaRocque, and researching dimension stone architecture.


Scope and Content Note

This collection, arranged in alphabetical order by subject, contains newspaper articles about the Amateur World Wrestling Championships that were held in Toledo in 1962. Also included are football and basketball editions of the Rocket Roundup an issue of Tower Magazine and a program for the United States Marine Band.
