Canaday Center

OUR SERVICES

REFERENCE & RESEARCH

The Canaday Center's mission to meet the research needs of the University of Toledo community and the general public through the accessibility of rare and unique materials is supported by our reference services. Patrons can utilize our services either on-site or remotely via email or phone. For on-site requests, researchers will need to schedule an appointment to visit and can do so via email, phone, or through our appointment request webform. For remote requests, we ask that you make your questions as specific as possible. Limited resources prevent us from conducting in-depth research on your behalf. If you are unable to come to campus to conduct your own research, we may be able to provide you with information on area researchers for hire.

PHOTOCOPYING & DIGITIZATION

The Center offers duplication services in a variety of ways, including photocopying, digital scanning, and media transfer to DVD for audiovisual materials.  Please see our policies regarding copyright restrictions and fee schedules.

INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT

We encourage instructors to bring their classes to the Canaday Center.  We can assist students with learning how to conduct primary source research through bibliographic classes and topic assistance through the introduction of our collections and corresponding subject areas.

Limited staffing prevents us from accommodating drop-in classes, so instructors interested in scheduling a class at the Canaday Center are advised to do so as far in advance as possible.  We also encourage you to forward us a copy of your syllabus so that we can customize our lessons to fit your course objectives.

RECORDS MANAGEMENT

The University Libraries Office of Records Management is the office responsible for administering the university's records management program.  All university records defined by the state of Ohio's public records laws must be scheduled for retention or destruction through the Office of Records Management. Records deemed to have permanent value will be transferred to the University Archives when they are no longer needed in the office of origin. EXHIBIT PROGRAM

Every year, the Canaday Center staff prepares an exhibit that highlights selections from our collections.  Visitors can view active exhibits in the exhibition area outside the reading room.  Past exhibits
