Module 1: Where do you go for assistance?

Reference

1.Librarians can help you locate materials in UT’s collections or at other libraries, using a variety of reference books, indexes, and databases, and can assist you in finding effective search strategies to streamline your research. Reference is available:

• in-person
• by phone
• by email (AskIt@utnet.utoledo.edu),
• chat with a librarian (http://chat.ohiolink.edu).

2.You can also schedule an individual instruction appointment for one-on-one reference consultation and instruction. Scheduling an appointment allows librarians time to provide in-depth help with your research.

3.You may also see librarians in your class teaching a library and information literacy session.

Circulation and Reserves

You can:

1.Check out materials from the library at the circulation desk. You will need a current university I.D. card ("Rocket Card").

2.Pick-up OhioLINK books, course reserves, and InterLibrary Loans (ILL). At Carver, Education students can find some course reserves.

3.Borrow wireless laptop for 2 hours from the Carlson Library Circulation Desk. At Carver, Education students can borrow laptops for 24 hours.

4.Pay your library fines at the Carlson Library Circulation Desk. Fines for overdue equipment at Carver are paid there.

5.Inquire for items lost in the building.

6. Pick-up print jobs sent from public terminals in Carlson Library.

Microforms and Multimedia

Microform & Multimedia houses several non-print collections

1.Microfilm, microfiche, and microcard are photographic reproductions of material that are reduced in size and require special equipment to view. Look for materials in these formats here.

2.This is also where you can pick up music CDs, VHS videotapes, and DVDs. Videotapes and DVDs can also be viewed here. CDs can be listened to with headphones (you might want to bring your own set).

3.If you need to use a typewriter you can do that here as well.
