Module 3: Database Records

There are many types of research databases. In the interactive tutorial below, a record from "Academic Search Premier" is examined.

When your search matches a word or words in any database, there will be a list that is developed. Sometimes in order of date, times by the number of times your terms were repeated in the record and how they were used. Blah blah blah you get a list…

There are many different databases, the OhioLink Research databases has over one hundred and fifty, and are characterized by their most importantly their content and their approaches to searching. But all databases that are academic in nature have some things in common that you will need to find the material described. for instance for an article there will be , Article title, article author, journal or magazine title that is source of the material and date and pages and volume and issue number. Most have a summary of the contents of the article called an abstract. Database use is now purchased as much for connections to full text articles as for the size and quality of coverage. Learning how to recognize the content of the records is the key to selecting material you need for learning.
