In this tutorial, more advanced searching techniques are explored using the Sociological Abstracts database. Sociological Abstracts contains index and abstracts to articles in social and behavioral sciences, including anthropology, criminology, demography, education, law, penology, race relations, social psychology, and urban studies.

find articles on the effect on society…

Abstract
It
is expected that problems related to functional illiteracy will become more acute in Russia over the next several years. UNESCO defines
functional illiteracy as not being able to read & understand a short, uncomplicated text. In the US, functional illiteracy includes secondary
illiteracy, semiliteracy, dyslexia, & those educationally at risk. It is estimated that 60-80 million Americans have difficulties reading,
while 23 million adults are functionally illiterate. Research in Canada & France has illustrated the difficulties these people encounter in
finding jobs in the information age. The need to assist children who are poor readers is stressed. 8 References. M. Meeks
