Module 4: Finding Citation Information--Journal Articles

Finding citation information – periodicals

For paper periodicals the information can be found on the front of the journal and at the article’s first and last page most of the time. Sometimes the information about volume and issue are located in a box near the beginning of the journal. More often this is characteristic of newspapers and magazines. Of course the citation you started with, either from a work cited page or a database bibliography, will have the information also, (oops, forgot to write it down.)

Finding citation information -- electronic periodicals

In electronic journals the same rules apply, if the item is a pdf file. except you will have to have the url for the item, which you copied down form the browser’s location bar text edit box. (or from the record in the database et cetera… (it is good to know where you got information from when you are an inexperienced note keeper.)
