Law and Social Thought

Law and Social Thought

The Program in Law and Social Thought is the only program of its kind in the state universities of Ohio. The program is based on the view that the study of law and justice is best pursued when located within a rich humanistic and social scientific tradition. Our faculty promote sustained reflection on the fundamental yet contestable values that shape the requirements of citizenship in contemporary democracy. Students of this program will develop an appreciation for the connections among various academic disciplines and their convergence on issues of law and its relation to morality, politics, language, history and power. The curriculum emphasizes the arts of critical and creative thinking that can support its graduates in a lifetime of work, service and study.

The Program in Law and Social Thought is designed to enhance student participation in the experience of learning. To that end, we have designed an innovative curriculum involving members of The University of Toledo's excellent faculty from many disciplines in the arts and sciences. Feel free to contact us about the major or minor if you have any questions or if you would like to discuss your options.

The Program in Law and Social Thought is a founding member of the Consortium of Undergraduate Law and Justice Programs.
