Internal Medicine Residency Program

Primary Care Track - Internal Medicine Residency

The central mission of the Primary Care Track is to provide trainees with a comprehensive skillset for long-term management in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, with a special focus on the latter. With dramatically expanded ambulatory experience, enrollees are fully immersed in the applied environment of the Patient Centered Medical Home from Day 1.

Curriculum emphasizes social determinants of health, population health management, preventative care, and integrated delivery models in cooperation with the allied health professions. We aim to produce humanistic, patient-centered clinicians able to deliver effective interventions for an increasingly diverse and vibrant community.

Special features include:
  • Up to 6 months of outpatient/elective experience per year
  • Outreach work with local, health-focused charities
  • Customizable & extensive sub-specialty exposure
  • Preceptorship with a practicing primary care physician
  • There are 4 positions available each academic year.

All training programs offered by the University of Toledo Internal Medicine Residency are eligible for ABIM certification. Graduates of any are well-prepared for private practice, academics, fellowship, or primary care.
