Welcome to the Department of Neurology

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Neurology at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences is three-fold: 1) to provide excellent education to our students, residents, fellows, and the wider community of medical professionals, 2) To improve the lives of persons with neurological disorders through compassionate, state-of-the-art medical care and education, and 3) To advance the state of knowledge of neurological disease, and develop new treatments through basic and clinical research.

Welcome to the Department of Neurology! The Department has a dedicated team of academic neurologists committed to excellence in education, research and clinical care.

The faculty within the department provide the highest quality of advanced neurological care to the most complex cases with the utmost compassion and care. As the only academic tertiary care center within the region, we provide a high level of expertise for virtually all neurological conditions in children and adults. Our faculty are fellowship trained and board certified to provide outstanding care for persons with stroke/cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, sleep medicine, neuromuscular disease, headache, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, neurocritical care, neuropthalmology, and neuro-otology. Our EEG laboratory and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit is the largest and most advanced in the region. Our JCAHO certified Comprehensive Stroke Center provides the most advanced state of the art interventional treatment and has garnered national recognition and multiple awards for providing the highest level of clinical care.

The department is recognized nationally as one of the best training programs in neurology and has achieved a national reputation of excellence. The faculty members within the department have received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and innovation in neurologic education. Many of our faculty members are invited speakers at educational forums throughout the country and serve as faculty and directors of courses at national meetings. With leadership positions on state and national professional boards and committees, our faculty are working to shape the future of neurological education.

The Department of Neurology also has very active clinical research programs related to cerebrovascular diseases, movement disorders, epilepsy, migraine and multiple sclerosis. From clinical trials to cutting edge clinical research, our faculty are extremely active in fulfilling our research mission.

I am extremely proud and honored to lead such a wonderful, dedicated and talented group of clinicians, educators and researchers.
