Center for Hypertension and Precision Medicine

PUBLIC AWARENESS

An enthusiastic and educated community plays a key role in building healthy and sustainable societies. The CHPM works with the American Heart Association and the American Physiological Society to stimulate public awareness in making the fight against hypertension and its associated cardiovascular and metabolic diseases more effective.

Several CHPM members serve on the Ohio chapter of the American Physiological Society, and in councils and activities sponsored by the American Heart Association. We work with University of Toledo and with local community forces and entrepreneurs to sponsor fundraising activities for these organizations. The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology and CHPM annually sponsor a team for the AHA's Heart Walk, to raise funds for cardiovascular research.

The CHPM also works with teams of clinicians and social workers to reach out to the local community to detect hypertensive individuals and educate diagnosed and undiagnosed patients about this disease and its complications.
