Welcome to the website for the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency program at The University of Toledo.

The University of Toledo's Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program is part of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and is fully accredited by the ACGME. Following completion of residency, our graduates demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to be excellent physiatrists. These goals are achieved through clinical exposure, bedside teaching, formal lectures, journal club, research, and independent study. Our program also offers plentiful opportunities for procedural training, including ultrasound-guided injection therapies, spinal interventional procedures, and electrodiagnostics.

The residents spend the majority of training at the University of Toledo Medical Center.  For inpatient services, the program has partnered with Ernest Health to provide physician staffing for the Rehabilitation Hospital of Northwest Ohio (RHNO) which opened in April 2015.  The rehab center is a 40-bed unit located on the UTMC campus and holds disease-specific certification in stroke, brain injuries, and cardiac rehab. In its first year of eligibility, RHNO ranked among the top 10% of inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the nation.  More information about RHNO and Ernest Health may be found at the provided links.

Our faculty specializes in TBI and SCI, and a variety of other services including general rehabilitation, electrodiagnosis, amputation and prosthetics, stroke and spasticity, spine and interventional procedures, and musculoskeletal medicine and ultrasound training. In addition, members of our faculty additionally have involvement with the University of Toledo Pain Management Fellowship.  We believe the diversity of the faculty lends to a well-rounded resident experience.
