November 13, 2014: Robert Lee successfully defends his dissertation

Congratulations to Robert Lee who successfully defended his dissertation November 13. The title of his dissertation was Alpha 7 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor: Novel Role in Macrophage Survival and Murine Atherosclerosis and his major advisor was Dr. Guillermo Vazquez.


October 16, 2014: Namrata Madan successfully defends her dissertation

Congratulations to Namrata Madan who successfully defended her dissertation October 16. The title of her dissertation was Role of Different Isoforms of Na/K-ATPase in Signal Transduction and her major advisor was Dr. Zi-Jian Xie.


August 25, 2014: Welcome new BMS Graduate Students

The fourth annual Lab Coat Ceremony was held at 3:15PM to welcome the new graduate students into the BMS program.  The students were welcomed by Dr. Patricia Komuniecki, Vice Provost Graduate Affairs, Dean College of Graduate Studies and Dr. Kandace Williams, Associate Dean, COM Graduate Programs and Mr. Dan Saevig, Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations.  Each graduate student was presented a lab coat Mr. Daniel Saevig, assisted by Marianne Pohlman.  Following the ceremony the students were addressed by Dr. Dorothea Sawicki, Associate Dean College of Graduate Studies & Vice Chancellor for Graduate Health Science Studies and Stuart Collins, president of the Council of Biomedical Graduate Students.

May, 2014:  Resmi Pillai wins award for published paper - Congratulations!

 CVMD PhD student Resmi Pillai has won the 2013 Young Investigator Award from the American Physiological Society (APS).  This is awarded to the first author of the best paper published in an APS journal- Physiological Genomics during the year.  This paper was entitled Isolation and high-throughput sequencing of two-closely linked epistatic hypertension susceptibility loci with a panel of bicongenic strains, Resmi Pillai , Harshal Waghulde , Ying Nie , Kathirvel Gopalakrishnan , Sivarajan Kumarasamy , Phyllis Farms , Michael R Garrett , Santosh S Atanur , Klio Maratou ,Timothy J Aitman, Bina Joe.  Physiological Genomics -Published 11 June 2013 Vol. no. DOI: 10.1152/physiolgenomics.00077.2013

In the same issue Resmi's major advisor Dr. Bina Joe was highlighted for her recent achievement in being named the 2014 Lewis K Dahl Memorial Lecturer, by the American Heart Association's Council on Hypertension.  Dr. Joe is not only a CVMD, and Dept of Physiology and Pharmacology faculty member, she is also the director of the Center for Hypertension and personalized Medicine.  Check out the link to the story: http://utnews.utoledo.edu/index.php/08_21_2014/professor-named-2014-lewis-k-dahl-memorial-lecturer


March 28, 2014: Moustafa Sayed successfully defends his dissertation

Congratulations to Moustafa Sayed who successfully defended his dissertation March 28. The title of his dissertation was Effects of Na/K-ATPase Pump and its Ligands on the Differentiation of Bone-marrow Stem Cells and his major advisor was Dr. Jiang Tian.


March 27, 2014: Shalini Gupta successfully defends her dissertation

Congratulations to Shalini Gupta who successfully defended her dissertation March 27. The title of her dissertation was Effects of Cardiotonic Steroids and Insulin on Sodium Pump Signaling and his major advisor was Dr. Deepak Malhotra.


March 25, 2014: Xingjian Jin successfully defends his dissertation

Congratulations to Xingjian Jin who successfully defended his dissertation March 25. The title of his dissertation was Regulation of Calcium Signaling by Cilla and its Role in Polycystic Kidney Disease Pathogenesis and his major advisor was Dr. Surya Nauli.
