April 29, 2011: Second Health Science Campus Research Day
On Friday, April 29 faculty, post-doctoral fellows and students from the UT Health Science Campus met for a day devoted to promoting research and research collaborations among the basic science and clinical researchers. The focus of the program was "Biomarkers, Therapeutics and Individualized Medicine". The event organized by Dr. Bryan Yamamoto, Chairman of Neurosciences, was held in the Dana Center on the Health Science Campus and began with opening remarks by Debra Gmerek, Ph.D. This was followed by six oral sessions. In the afternoon, 1998 Nobel Laureate Dr. Ferid Murad, who was invited by Dr. Nader Abraham, gave a presentation entitled, "Nitric Oxide and Cyclic-GMP in Cancer and Stem Cells Revisited". After the scientific sessions, in special ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, Dr. Murad was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by Dr. Lloyd Jacobs, President of UT, and Dr. Jeffrey Gold, Chancellor and Executive VP for Biosciences and Health Affairs and Dean of the College of Medicine.
