    Annual Graduate Research Forum

April 3, 2008: Annual Graduate Research Forum

The annual Graduate Research Forum was held on April 2 and 3, 2008.  This event is organized by the Council of Graduate Students of the UT Health Science Campus and provides an opportunity for students to present their work to fellow students and faculty.  Students from the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Health Science and Human Service participated.  Twenty-one students in the CVMD track presented posters.  Most noteworthy was that CVMD student Rudel Saunders was awarded the first place prize for his poster entitled Mechanisms of action of a novel anti-obesity drug.  His major advisor is Dr. Khew-Voon Chin of the Dept. of Medicine.  Second and third places went to Ranendra Dutta and Benjamin Hart respectively.  As is evident from the photos below, all students had plenty of opportunity to discuss and defend their work and did so with great enthusiasm.

The event was held in the sunlit atrium of the Center for Creative Education.

The keynote address entitled “Experimental Models of Complex Disease: A Thermodynamic Strategy” was presented by Steven Britton, Ph.D. an erstwhile member of our physiology department currently at the University of Michigan.
