Graduate studies at the Medical College of Ohio leading to the Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D. or M.S. degrees are offered through three interdisciplinary programs in Medical Sciences. The Molecular and Cellular Biology Training Program offers the Ph.D. degree and provides students with in-depth training and knowledge of cell function from the molecular through the cellular level. The goal of the program is to foster the creative and intellectual development needed to enable students to undertake successful careers as independent scientists and teachers.

After initial required and elective course work, the student receives individualized research training to apply these basic principles to an understanding of biological processes of medical significance. Students choose an advisor after rotations in two or three laboratories and start their thesis research by the end of the first year. Effective communication skills are acquired by participation in journal clubs and seminars, and by making presentations at local and national scientific meetings.
Full financial support ($18,500 stipend plus tuition waiver) are available to all accepted Ph.D. candidates.
Appropriate undergraduate preparation would include courses in biology and chemistry, with some background in physics and mathematics.
