M.D./Ph.D. Program

Events and Activities

The University of Toledo M.D./Ph.D. Program sponsors or participates in a variety of academic and social events throughout the year. Some of these events are primarily for current stuents, while others are open to prospective students, faculty and staff. Prior M.D./Ph.D. events have included: scientific seminars, M.D./Ph.D. committee meetings, monthly student lunch meetings, recreational and holiday activities, Medical Student Research Day and Graduate Research Forum. A retreat is planned each year, typically in the fall to showcase our M.D./Ph.D. student research activities. See below for information on M.D./Ph.D. Program Activities and UT departmental and program seminar series.

M.D./Ph.D. Program Activities
The M.D./Ph.D. Student Lunch Meeting
All students in the M.D./Ph.D. program gather for lunch on the third Monday of each month to discuss program-related issues with the Program Director. These meetings provide a forum to address the needs and concerns of current students in the program. More specifically, the purpose of these meetings is to plan and schedule M.D./Ph.D. program events (including orientation, regular meetings, joing meetings with the M.D./Ph.D. committee, casual meetings, special events, the annual retreat, etc.), to maintain and update the M.D./Ph.D. website, to address the concerns of M.D./Ph.D. students, to coordinate M.D./Ph.D. student activities with other student activities on campus and to aid in recruiting talented new students.

The M.D./Ph.D. Program Committee

The M.D./Ph.D. Committee is composed of clinical and basic science faculty in the College of Medicine and other Health Science fields, and is charged with administering the program. Representatives from each of the Biomedical Sciences Tracks as well as the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs in the College of Medicine provide expertise across disciplines and ensure good communication with faculty involved in all stages of training. The committee makes admissions and scholarship recommendations, reviews and modifies program policies and tracks the progress of students throughout the program. The committee is chaired by the Program Director and meets on the second Monday of each month during the academic year. A list of currnet members can be found in the M.D./Ph.D. Student Handbook (available upon request).
