Educational Programs and Classes at the LEC

activities for kids  

Fulfilling the education part of our mission, the Lake Erie Center:

  • Is home to >15 resident full-time year-round graduate students and hosts about a dozen others during the field season.
  • Manages a robust NSF GK-12 program that partners with scientists, engineers, graduate students, and agency professionals to conduct cutting-edge research on important land-lake environmental challenges
  • Offers a popular monthly public lecture series.
  • Hosts a family-friendly Naturalist Program, featuring interactive talks and outings by local nature experts.
  • Hosts advanced undergraduate and graduate-level courses.
  • Participates in environmental science education mentoring and shadowing programs.
  • Is the meeting place for numerous environmental groups.
  • Offers a summer science camp for 4th and 5th grade students.
