Welcome
Our programs for the month of May are:
- Fridays at 7:30 PM: When Venus Transits the Sun is an exciting fulldome program produced by Bays Mountain Planetarium. The program
is the perfect introduction to the June 5th 2012 transit of the Sun by the planet Venus. This is the last time Venus will do
so during our lifetime. This program will help audience members understand the historic
and scientific significance of this rare event as well as learn how they can see it
for themselves safely. Observing the stars and planets will follow, weather permitting.
- Saturdays at 1PM: Zula Patrol: Under the Weather is a must-see for audiences of all ages! Follow the adventures of the Zula Patrol as they learn all about weather, both terrestrial and interplanetary, and fight the evil Dark Truder who wants to rule the Universe. The NY Times referred to Zula Patrol: Under the Weather as Seasame Street in space! Solar observing will follow, weather permitting.
Also during the month of May we will be screening a feature-length film each Saturday night at 7 and 9 PM entitled The City Dark. The City Dark is a documentary about light pollution and how the slow loss of the night sky affects life here on Earth. It premiered in competition at the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize for Best Score/Music. Featuring stunning astrophotography and a cast of eclectic scientists, philosophers, historians, and lighting designers, The City Dark is the definitive story of light pollution and the disappearing stars. Note this is a traditional movie projected in the planetarium.
Admission to all programs is $7 for adults and $5 for children, seniors, and UT employees.
