Pre-Nursing Requirements

  • There is a mandatory placement test for Chemistry and Math; learn more about placement testing here. Please complete all placements tests at least 24 hours before your scheduled Rocket Launch.
  • You will take nursing prerequisite courses for the first two years on Main Campus. Once all prerequisite courses are complete with a grade of "C" or above (a grade of "C-" is not acceptable), then you may apply to the upper division nursing program where you will complete the nursing curriculum at UToledo's Health Science Campus for the last two years. All post-secondary, transfer and higher education coursework are used to calculate the cumulative GPA; admission is competitive for the professional division.

Upper Division Nursing Requirements

  • All prerequisites must be completed prior to application for the nursing major. A grade of “C” or above is required on all prerequisite and nursing courses (a grade of C- is not acceptable).
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required to be eligible to apply for the upper division. Grades from all college courses determine GPA (college credit plus, PSO, repeated courses and all grade deleted courses). Students may apply for up to 18 hours of grade deletion, per University Policy. Please note, if you were granted direct admission as a freshman, you must maintain a UToledo GPA of 3.5 to qualify for your seat.
  • Students are required to authorize UToledo to obtain criminal record checks (i.e., BCII and FBI) and are responsible for fingerprinting expenses. Students must declare and document misdemeanor and/or felony offenses that occur prior to admission to the professional division and/or during program progression. Convictions may result in denial of admission to the professional division or dismissal after matriculation.
  • Admission to the professional division is offered fall and spring terms. Students who do not accept placement/seat for the semester offered will reapply for admission.
  • The application process consists of completing a B.S.N. Professional Major Application. To apply to the major please contact the nursing advising office.
