SUSPECTED ELEVATED LEAD LEVEL: WHAT NEXT?

  • Child already identified with elevated blood lead level (BLL) >5 µg/dL, has a history of elevated lead level, OR school nurse has suspicion of elevated lead based on signs and/or symptoms.

  • If suspicious of elevated BLL but not level has not been tested, contact family or caregiver of child to ask Lead Screening Questions and discuss risks and benefits to initial lead screening.

  • Recommend initial lead screening at health fair, PCP, local clinic, or Lucas County Health Department (419) 213-4100. If elevated, proceed to Confirmed Elevated Lead Level: What Next?
