A. Management effectively allocates resources for technology research.

  1. Are feasibility and profitability analyses performed for all planned technology projects?
  2. Are all planned projects reviewed, approved, and prioritized based on the University’s strategic goals?
  3. Have clear policies been established that outline the criteria for approving technology projects?
  4. Have communication channels been established for reporting the status of technology projects to management?

B. Management identifies leading technologies relevant to University services.

  1. Are appropriately qualified employees hired to work in technology-related functions?
  2. Are needs and opportunities effectively communicated between technology, marketing, and service design functions?
  3. Have key decision makers been educated on the limited ability of cost accounting systems to focus on the hidden costs of technology that are included in the University's overhead?
  4. Is cost-profit-volume (CVP) analysis used to analyze the impact of advanced technology on the cost structure? 

Compliance with applicable laws and regulations 

A. The University complies with patent infringement laws.

  1. Are all proposed technology projects reviewed for potential patent infringements?
  2. Is the external environment monitored for patent activity that relates to the University's existing or developing technology?
