From A.L.I. to a Degree Program at UT

    Common Questions:

If I receive an admission to study at the ALI, does this mean that I can join my degree program at The University of Toledo also?

Not necessarily. The A.L.I. is not a degree program. To join a degree program at UT, you must complete a UT application and receive an acceptance (admission) into the program of your choice. Your acceptance into your degree program depends on your high school grades (and college grades for transfer students).

The A.L.I. application is separate from the UT application. Admission to the A.L.I. does not mean admission to a UT degree program.

    Information on applying to UT

How will A.L.I. help me to enter the University of Toledo?

    • You will raise your TOEFL score if you study hard at the A.L.I.
TOEFL requirement for undergraduate study: 500 (paper) or 173 (computer) or 61 (internet)
TOEFL requirement for graduate study: 550 (paper) or 213 (computer) or 79-80 (internet)
    • You can enter UT full-time as an undergraduate with less than 500 on TOEFL if you have good grades in the A.L.I., good attendance and a TOEFL of at least 450 (paper) or 133 (computer) or 45-46 (internet)
Read the Advanced Level Policy for more information
    • You can take some classes at ALI and some at UT from the Advanced level if you have good grades in the A.L.I., good attendance and a TOEFL of at least 450.
Read about the Transition Program for more information.
      • Transition Policy for Continuing ALI Students
      • Transition Policy for New ALI Students
Note: To qualify for Advanced Level Policy or the Transition Program, you must have a conditional admission to your academic program. A conditional admission means that your high school grades are good enough for you to be admitted to your academic program, but you haven't met the English language requirements yet.
