Pipeline Programs administered by the Office of Institutional Diversity The University of Toledo's pipeline programs capture high school students early in their academic careers which is critical to establishing a more diverse applicant pool for the UT College of Medicine in the future. The goal of these programs are to create learning opportunties for underrepresented students intested in careers in the health professions. Once students have participated in the programs they are tracked at different stages in the educational pipeline, from high school, college and beyond.
REACH (Research Experience and Awareness of Clinical Health). This nationally recognized program provides exposure to the health sciences, in both the basic and clinical tracks for underrepresented high school students in the Toledo community who have an interest in the health sciences. REACH runs eight weeks during the summer from June to August. In addition to the research component, student interns have an opportunity to shadow health professionals in other areas. The program culminates in a Research Forum where REACH participants are required to make formal presentations of their research findings. Applications are solicited each spring. A completed application will consist of a student application, science teacher recommendation form, essay and official high school transcript. Please contact the office for additional information.
