2023 State of the University address

Reimagining UToledo

April 19, 2023

President Gregory Postel delivered his third annual State of the University Address on April 19, 2023 from Doermann Theatre in University Hall.

The address, his first in-person since joining UToledo in 2020, showcased the University’s new strategic plan, UToledo Reimagined (2023-2028). The address was titled “Reimagining UToledo.”

“Looking ahead to the next 150 years, we are reimagining the future of public higher education and our role as a leading public research university,” Postel said. “Our new strategic plan sets the direction for the next five years as together we focus on building a stronger, sustainable institution with a redesigned brand that showcases the value of our education, research and patient care.”

Postel celebrated achievements from the past year and then described each goal in the strategic plan and his vision for moving them forward.

Taking place on 419 Day in the year UToledo celebrated its sesquicentennial, the President’s address was followed by the Rocket Spring Festival in Centennial Mall with the community invited to enjoy food trucks, music and activities ending with a fireworks show.

Inspiring Hope: UToledo's Brightest Days are Ahead

In his first State of the University Address delivered virtually May 3, 2021, UToledo President Gregory Postel praised the campus community for the empathy, resiliency and innovation shown during the COVID-19 pandemic. The speech was titled “Inspiring Hope: UToledo’s Brightest Days are Ahead.”
