National Watermelon Day- August 3

Watermelon is fat free and low in calories.  It tastes sweet and delicious and also packs in Vitamins A, C, and B6.  In a two cup serving, watermelon also provides a good source of potassium which can help with muscle cramps and the bonus is, it’s only 80 calories!

National Zucchini Day- August 8

The darker the vegetable, the more nutrients it contains.  Zucchini is a rich dark green, packed with potassium, phosphorus and vitamins A and C.  Zucchini is also low in calories due to its high water content. You can use raw zucchini to cut up in strips and dip in dressing or hummus.  Shredded zucchini is also great to put on salads as well.  Zucchini can also be baked, steamed, fried, grilled or used in many different dishes.

National Banana Split Day- August 10

A classic, banana splits are a yummy summer dessert. With a split banana, scoops of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream, all topped with fresh fruits and your other favorite ice cream toppings (chocolate syrup, nuts, etc.), this is a dessert that in a way, adds some nutrients. Indulge a little today with a banana split.

National Trail Mix Day- August 31

Trail mix is a great snack that adds in a lot of nutrients.  Usually made with nuts, raisins, chocolate candies, pretzels, or cereal you can get lots of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals all in one snack.  There are so many varieties to this yummy treat.
