Program Overview

An online associate degree in General Studies covers a range of essential topics that make up a quality liberal education. Besides being valuable in its own right, this degree program is the perfect way for students to explore different academic areas before pursuing a bachelor’s degree. At The University of Toledo, students follow a program of general studies through University College and select an area of concentration and related coursework not offered in traditional majors.

Program Details

UT’s associate degree online program in general studies gives students far greater flexibility in their undergraduate plan of study. Working with a program adviser, students can design an individualized major by blending courses from a single department with related courses from several different departments. Students follow a general studies curriculum with the option to study one of the following ‘tracks’ or areas of interest: Criminal Justice, Health and Fitness, Introduction to Law and the Legal System, and Communications.

CAREER OUTLOOK

An associate degree in general studies provides students with the credentials they need to enter the workforce, or it can can serve as a stepping stone toward a bachelor’s degree. 

Many popular majors like criminal justice and communication include classes that must be completed by all majors; these classes align perfectly with the general studies curriculum.

Curriculum 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be admitted to an associate degree program in University College at The University of Toledo, students must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.0. Transfer students must have a minimum higher education GPA of 2.0, for all work taken.

Applicants who do not meet college/program admission requirements will be admitted to the University College, Department of Exploratory Studies and transfer to the College of Business and Innovation when the minimum requirements are met.
