Workshop

Moderators:
Greg Salamo, Karthik Ramani and Errol Arkilic
The
federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small
Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs offer opportunities
to promote university-small business collaboration in support
of innovation outcomes. SBIR/STTR competitions are highly competitive,
so well-written technical proposals with commercial outcomes
along with a well-established partnership gives the applicant
a competitive edge. These federal programs complement and enhance
many of the primary goals of the PFI program. PFI awardees will
discuss their successes in garnering federal support for projects
begun under the aegis of the PFI program and ways that the SBIR
and STTR programs help support the advancement of innovation
partnerships.
- How
does PFI promote innovation through SBIR/STTR partnerships?
- How
can PFI enhance university/college SBIR/STTR partnerships?
- What
are examples of successes of PFI support leading to
SBIR/STTR awards?
- Has
PFI partnered with SBIR/STTR programs promoted innovation
in education and research?
- What
role do PFI partnerships with SBIR/STTR programs play in the
overall education and research goals of NSF?
- In what
ways can PFI be the driver of campus cultural change?
- Can
the small business interaction with potential customers and
base provide new research ideas and funding?
- Paths
of technology commercialization: when to pursue a startup
route and when to pursue a licensing route?
