The University of Toledo

Referred to as the TRIO program or the SSS program, TRIO Student Support Services is one of UT's oldest student retention programs. Since October of 2001, our selective program has had a role in the matriculation of more than 200 students toward a baccalaureate degree. One third of those graduates have begun graduate programs across the region.

Introduction

The TRIO Student Support Services program at UT is designed to help low-income and first-generation college students as well as students with disabilities successfully complete college and graduate.

Services provided by SSS include multicultural social events, individual academic advising, tutoring, and career and social adjustment counseling, as well as helping students to utilize existing university services and complete financial aid forms.

TRIO projects are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and are the TRIO Programs because there were initially three (TRIO Educational Talent Search, TRIO Upward Bound, and TRIO Student Support Services).

While financial aid helps students overcome financial barriers to higher education, SSS programs across the country help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education

The following are a few facts about your fellow classmates that participate in TRIO SSS:

• 1/5 of SSS students at UT have families.
• More than 1/3 of our students are non-traditional ranging from 24 to 55 years of age.
• 75% of our students are in Good Standing.
• 33% are transfer students.
• 70% have a 2.5 or greater GPA.
• 75% are enrolled full-time.
• 33% have used our private tutorial services.
• 60% have accessed on-campus tutorial services (LEC, College or Department) at one time.

Understanding the need to develop a strong foundation for college success, our students have made SSS an integral part of their lifelong success. Our students are motivated to succeed, complete their college degrees and assume leadership roles in their communities.
