Professional Studies

A Professional Studies Degree gives you the ability to take the foundation of a technical degree and add a business specialty with related courses in communication, information technology, organizational development, and leadership and diversity management. Along with the major, you will earn a minor in one of three areas: E-commerce, Entrepreneurship and Family Small Business, or Professional Sales.

This degree is designed for Associate Degree graduates and transfer students. The Professional Studies degree courses are delivered on campus, on-line, or in a blended format.

Admission into Professional Studies Degree:
To be admitted to the professional studies program, you must have the following:

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • An Associates Degree or at least 60 semester hours earned
    (You may transfer up to 90 hours toward your degree)

Earning a Bachelors Degree in Professional Studies:
To earn a Bachelors Degree in professional studies, you must:

  • Complete 120 semester hours
  • Earn a minimum of 30 hours at the 3000-4000 levels
  • Complete the Senior Capstone requirement

With a Professional Studies Degree:
Through your degree, you'll be ready to use your skills and knowledge to implement your own business ideas, develop and manage new products or innovations, and position yourself to take advantage of the demand for web developers, consultants, and content managers.

Required Curriculum:
In addition to the required courses for the Professional Studies Degree program, UT Core Competencies must be met through transfer courses or at UT prior to graduation. Thirty semester-hours of classes at the 3000-4000 level are required for graduation.

All students must complete:

  • AL 3000 - Intro to Professional Studies
  • BUAD 1020 - Microcomputer Applications (or CMPT 1100)
  • BUAD 2000 - Career Development
  • COMM 3880 - Professional Business Communication
  • AL 4950 - Senior Capstone
  • 18 semester hours of Related Electives
  • 3-5 semester hours of Free Electives AND one of the following minors
    • E-Commerce & Information Technology Minor
    • Entrepreneurship & Family/Small Business Minor
    • Professional Sales Minor
