University Studies (formerly Individualized Studies)

The University Studies degree, formerly Individualized Studies (IDVP), is designed to allow you to build an individualized bachelor’s degree around your interests and goals. You are able to emphasize your personal and professional goals, as well as interests through a customized plan of study.

The degree awarded is either the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science, depending upon course selections, which will be coordinated with your academic advisor.

These course lists are only suggested courses students can pull from when building their program of study. Students are not limited to just these classes, they are provided as a helpful resources. 

*Note that not all classes are offered online and students are responsible for prerequisites.

Admission into University Studies:
To be admitted you must have the following:

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • A minimum of 20 semester hours of earned credit

Earning a Bachelors Degree in University Studies:
To earn a Bachelors Degree in University Studies, your personalized program:

  • Must be interdisciplinary and intercollegiate
  • May not duplicate an existing major at UT
  • Must be approved by the Program Review Committee
  • Must include 39 semester hours at the 3000-4000 levels
  • A senior capstone is required in the final semester of study and must be related to the student's area of concentration in university studies.

University Studies has the ability to earn your degree 100% online, depending on your core selection.

With an University Studies Degree:
Graduates with University Studies degrees have the ability to work in a wide variety of fields. Career fields of recent graduates include administrative analyst, program manager, entrepreneur, teacher, attorney, librarian, and many more.
