UT students can team up to be a part of a Students Involved in Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter. SIFE is an international group in which team members face challenges and learn from experiences that are not found in a classroom.
SIFE is a global, non-profit organization that is working to change the world through highly dedicated student teams at more than 1,500 universities in 37 countries. It offers students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise.
SIFE students make the transition from being a student to a teacher by organizing a team, developing and implementing free enterprise educational projects, finding project funding, using the mass media and presenting team accomplishments at a SIFE regional competition.
There are several components to the program:
There is no cost to join. All expenses are funded by SIFE or The University or by other team funds. SIFE is open to all students. The only requirement is that you be a student at UT, interested in sharing information with others in the community. A student is defined as an individual taking at least one credit hour. There is no restriction as to major or grade point average.
For further information or to join SIFE, contact Kathleen Fitzpatrick at 419.530.3163 or e-mail to kfitzpa@utnet.utoledo.edu
The "Student Advertising Group of Toledo", SAGT, is run for students and by students of the University of Toledo. Membership requires that a member be a UT student in good standing who is taking at least one class during the semester that the student is enrolled in the club. The student also must be in classes or studying the program in advertising or marketing fields. This would include people taking a course of study that would include any of the following: Marketing, Advertising, Graphic Arts, Copywriting, Advertising and Promotions, and Web Design, Broadcast Journalism, Print Journalism and Publications, and related fields.
Activities one can experience through SAGT may include guest speakers from the advertising industry, seminars, field trips, advertising or promotional projects, internship or scholarship opportunities, and networking with professionals in the local advertising community.
SAGT is UT's student chapter of the American Advertising Federation, the only national organization representing all advertising and communication disciplines. AAF, headquartered in Washington, D.C. provides SAGT with many benefits, including representation at a national legislative level, hosting a regional and national competition for student advertising groups, and many scholarship and internship opportunities.
SAGT is also affiliated with The Advertising Club of Toledo, another AAF affiliate, comprised of over 300 members of the Toledo area's advertising community. SAGT is an equal opportunity organization, which does not discriminate, based on gender, race, age, or physical ability.
For more information on SAGT contact the SAGT's faculty advisor is Bonnie Berry, Visiting Professor at University College at 419.530.3082 or by email at bberry@utnet.utoledo.edu
