Promoting Partnership Project Dual Credit is a project that promotes partnership between NW Ohio school districts and UT. The goal of the project is to provide high-quality coursework and instruction in the high-demand areas of advanced mathematic, laboratory science and foreign language. The project offers high school students the opportunity to earn high school and college credit simultaneously, while in their high school classroom.
How it Works Project Dual Credit will accomplish this by providing funding for high-quality professional development for participating teachers in math, science and foreign languages. Funds may also cover course expenses, including college-level textbook and instructional materials or college tuition.
UT would set specific requirements for the dual credit courses that they offer. The college or university professor or designee would ensure parity between the courses at the high school and college or university levels. The course would have the same content, pace and level of difficulty as it does when offered to college or university undergraduates.
Teacher Selection Dual credit courses are taught by high school teachers who have an advanced degree in mathematics, science or foreign languages and/or experience in the discipline. The teachers partner will cooperating college or university professor for training, course planning, and mentoring.
Student SelectionHigh school students who qualify may enroll in a dual credit course in a participating school. Colleges and universities would establish qualifications for enrollment in a dual credit course, such as placement tests. High school staff could also work in tandem with the institution to determine student participation.
Grades and TranscriptsSince the grade is given according to established criteria, the same grade appears on both the high school and college or university transcripts. If a high school student transfers to another college or university after graduating, the student must verify the successful transfer of the dual credit course to the new college or university.
Project Dual Credit DetailsProject Dual Credit in Mathematics, Science and Foreign Language creates a regional collaborative partnership to build statewide capacity to deliver high-quality coursework and instruction in advanced mathematics, laboratory science and foreign languages by offering dual credit classes in a high school setting. The project establishes a regional dual credit advisory board that provides oversight and develops partnerships with institutions of higher education to develop dual credit courses.
