    About Us

    History
After an extensive study, The University of Toledo Board of Trustees approved the creation of an advising center to serve the undecided student; direct from high school, transfers and adult students. The result of that approval, granted in 1999, created the Student Success Center. Additional services we added over the years to include the Transition student, needing additional grades, classes or test scores to enter the college they applied to; and the High School Outreach Initiative Office.
In 2008 The University created the UT Learning Collaborative. The Student Success Center changed their name to the Gateway Programs and joined this unique evolved "college" model to work to support and enhances our students academic journey.

    Mission Statement
We will provide timely, comprehensive, quality service to the exploratory/undecided students to help them in making appropriate academic decisions at The University of Toledo. The Gateway Programs strives to enhance and improve the student's transition to the university setting and become successful in their selected pursuits.

    Value Statement

Gateway Program advisers are most concerned about the care and assistance of academically exploratory/undecided students as they make their adjustments to college life. Intrusive, case management style advising helps students make a connection here at UT as well as aiding the advisers in watching the progress each student is making toward their educational goals.

    Philosophy Statement
The purpose of the UT Learning Collaborative and Universities is to help students set and implement educational and career goals; therefore we must be cooperatively engaged in the venture. We must create a climate that encourages all students to explore during freshman year and provide an atmosphere that supports students who are initially buy who need to change majors later. All students will have the needed services available to them, as they are required to meet their various schedules and goals. The Gateway Program will partner with other Divisions within the University to deliver services for its student support and enrollment.
