Internal Admission and Reinstatement Procedure
We want to help you be successful in your academic endeavors and are committed to assisting you in achieving your educational goals. UT offers numerous resources and services to help you improve your academic performance. As you are considering readmission to college after some time away, are on academic probation in another UT program, or are coming back after a suspension, we want you to think through a few things as you consider possible admission to the Gateway Programs.
Start to re-focus on school and begin contemplating the academic rigor required to be successful. With this said, there are three steps you need to take in order to be considered for admission.
The Gateway Programs Internal Admission and Reinstatement Procedure include the following steps:
1.) Appeal Letter – This letter must be typed in Word and attached to an email using your UT Outlook email account. The letter should address steps that you will take to significantly improve your academic performance. Your appeal letter must also include an assessment of your academic goals. What goals have you set to assist you in making improvements in your academic performance? For guidance on goal setting you can use the My Goal/Action Plan Guide. The letter must be grammatically correct and contain proper spelling and punctuation.
Re-evaluate your priorities and consider the value of a college degree.
2.) Academic Assignment and Quiz – The Gateway advisers have prepared several videos to help you understand the academic processes here at UT. Please visit the advising page to view the following six videos:
The advising videos will help you answer the questions on the Internal Admission and Reinstatement Quiz.
Out of 29 possible points on the quiz, you must earn a score of at least 25 points in order to be considered for admission.
3.) Email all materials (appeal letter and quiz) to GatewayPrograms@utoledo.edu. Attention Ruth Meinhart, Assistant Dean, Gateway Programs.
These steps must be completed and submitted to GatewayPrograms@utoledo.edu at least one month prior to the beginning of the semester you wish to be admitted, or sooner, in order for the Academic Review Committee to review your materials and make a decision on your possible admission.
An application for Gateway Admission cannot be considered until all student account holds are cleared. Some examples of holds that would block your reinstatement and class registration are: past due balances; disciplinary holds, and various fines such as lab or library fines.
To continue enrollment after the first conditional term, the Academic Review Committee considers grades in all courses for the required GPA. All grades, including Withdrawals, Incompletes, and No Credits in classes, will be considered and will have an impact on the final decision for you to continue enrollment at UT. Therefore, it is important to meet with your academic adviser throughout the term or contact him/her at the first sign of difficulty.
If your admission is approved, you will be notified via your UT email account, which is the University’s primary method of communication with you. Then, you will be required to contact one of the Gateway Program’s academic advisers to discuss your Conditional Enrollment and the best Academic Path for YOU! Call 419.530.1250 to schedule an appointment.
You will also be required to complete a Conditional Enrollment Contract with your academic adviser.
