FYE Statement

The University of Toledo acknowledges the value of a positive, productive first year.  The First-Year Experience is an integral partner in the Learning Collaborative and supports the University's student-centered mission by assisting first-year and transfer students to gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed for success as engaged citizens of their new academic community.  The University is therefore committed to providing every new and transfer student with a comprehensive, high-quality First Year Experience (FYE) that fosters success.

FYE Programs will:

Introduce students to a scholarly community in the foundation year of their college journey; build and sustain a vibrant and diverse college community committed to the success of first-year college students and all students in transition; acquaint students with the academic tools and opportunities for intellectual growth and exploration inside and outside the classroom; ensure that first-year and transition students feel welcomed, celebrated, and help students develop a positive sense of self with the confidence and skills necessary to define and achieve their academic and life goals.  Students take Beginning the Academic Journey orientation class in their first year as well as participate in the MAP-Words (Making Achievement Possible) survey and personalized report.
