About Us

Purpose
The office is the resource for service-learning on campus and can assist in course design, finding example syllabi, and matching students in service placements. We also offer faculty workshops on a department by department basis. Finally, the office has many resources including course design toolkits, the AAHE Series on Service-Learning in the Disciplines, many articles on service-learning, its impact on students and many other topics.

History
The Office of Service-Learning and Community Engagement was established in fall of 2001 and is currently staffed by an AmeriCorps*VISTA and Secretary.  [more history]

AmeriCorps*VISTA
The University of Toledo began hosting an AmeriCorps*VISTA on campus in 2001 through Ohio Campus Compact.  The VISTA position is only a year-long commitment with the opportunity of a second year if desired by the VISTA.  More information on the Americorps*VISTA program is available here.

Mollie Parsons
M3C Fellowship Coordinator
419.530.6159
mollie.parsons@utoledo.edu

Mollie graduated in June of 2008 from Ohio University with a major of Family Studies.  During her four years in Athens, she was active within the service-learning community, with both the on-campus Child Development Center and a nearby nursing home.  She was also a member of Senior Class Council which helped prepare the soon-to-be graduates for the "real world."  She is looking forward to working with staff and faculty, students and community partners during her time at The University of Toledo.  She is currently a graduate student hoping to have her Master's in Higher Education by August 2010.

"Discipline yourself and others won’t have to.  Respect every opportunity, but fear none.  The best way to improve your team is to improve yourself.  Do not mistake activity for achievement.  It is amazing how much we can accomplish when no one care who gets the credit.  Time spent getting even would be better spent getting ahead."
