Service Learning Community
Community service learning occurs when students participate in a meaningful service experience that benefits the community. Engaging in active reflection focusing on what students learned throughout their service experience is what differentiates service learning from community service. The service learning reflection consists of three layers – a mirror to reflect on the self, a microscope to focus on the society that is lived in, and binoculars to see what lies ahead.
What is the Service-Learning Community?
Students who are interested in participating in the Service Learning Community Program have the opportunity to work with a small group outside the UT community. Each group is led by a Student Ambassador who has previously worked with certain organizational aspects of the project. In addition, faculty mentors participate in each small group and assist with reflection activities. A minimum of 3 hours of service each month is required to remain a member of the program.
The main service sites for 2008-2009 are as follows:
If you are interested in participating in any of the above service learning experiences, please contact the student ambassador in charge of that program.
